What is the WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit?

WIC families receive a monthly cash-value benefit on their California WIC Card for fruits and vegetables purchases. Families can buy fresh, dried, canned, and frozen fruits and vegetables in any brand, type, or combination with their Fruits and Vegetables Benefit. Organic fruits and vegetables are included.

What is the latest update to the WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit?

The WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit increase has been temporarily extended through December 16, 2022.

The new increased dollar amounts are now:

For example, a family with 1 breastfeeding parent and 3 eligible children would get $124 ($49+25+25+25) each month for fruits and vegetables.

How were the benefit levels for this temporary benefit increase decided?

The benefit levels by participant category (children, pregnant and postpartum, and breastfeeding) are based on independent scientific recommendations from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM). The benefit levels are also consistent with longstanding advice in the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and adjusted for inflation.

How long will WIC families get the new increase?

At this time, the temporary extension to the WIC Fruits and Vegetables Benefit increase has been extended through December 16, 2022. California WIC anticipates the increase may extend through December 31, 2022. Please check this page for updates.

Each monthly benefit is good for 30 days from the date they are issued. For example, benefits issued on December 16, 2022, can be used through January 15, 2023.

Where can I use the Fruits and Vegetables Benefit?

You can use your Fruits and Vegetables Benefit at WIC approved stores and with farmers that accept the WIC Card.
